Problem

Reports indicate that Shakib is facing legal cases in Bangladesh, including a case connected to the 2024 uprising and proceedings initiated by anti-corruption authorities. The allegations are matters for the relevant authorities and courts to examine according to law.This petition is not intended to prejudge the cases or determine whether the allegations are true or false. Instead, it calls for a safe, transparent and lawful process that allows Shakib, if he chooses to return, to appear before the appropriate authorities, obtain legal representation and present his defence.We believe that the rule of law should protect everyone through fair procedures, while also respecting the rights and interests of victims, witnesses and other parties involved in legal proceedings.A secure return and an impartial legal process can help ensure that the matter is addressed through the proper judicial channels rather than through uncertainty or public speculation.

Proposed Solution

We call upon the Government of Bangladesh and relevant judicial authorities to establish clear and lawful arrangements that would allow Shakib Al Hasan to return, if he chooses to do so, while ensuring his personal security and full access to due process.We request that authorities:Provide clear information about the legal procedures and requirements applicable to his return.Ensure reasonable security arrangements during his arrival and subsequent legal proceedings, subject to lawful assessment.Guarantee access to independent legal representation.Allow the courts to independently examine the allegations and evidence without political interference.Ensure that Shakib receives the same procedural rights and responsibilities applicable to any other accused person.Protect the interests and rights of victims, witnesses and all other parties involved in the proceedings.Communicate publicly and transparently about the lawful process governing his return.This petition does not ask for criminal charges to be withdrawn, evidence to be ignored or special treatment to be granted. It asks for a transparent, secure and lawful process in which allegations are determined by the competent courts.
