Stop Recruitment Scams and Protect Job Seekers
Problem
The people affected are students, fresh graduates, unemployed professionals, migrant workers, and other job seekers who rely on online platforms, social media, recruitment agencies, and messaging apps to find employment. Fraudsters often impersonate genuine companies or recruiters and advertise fake jobs, interviews, offer letters, or work opportunities. Victims may be asked to pay registration fees, security deposits, training charges, document-verification fees, or other payments before receiving a job that does not exist. These scams can cause significant financial losses, identity and personal-data risks, emotional stress, and loss of valuable time. Young and first-time job seekers can be particularly vulnerable because they may have limited experience identifying fraudulent recruitment practices. The petition seeks stronger awareness, verification, reporting mechanisms, and enforcement against fraudulent recruitment activities so that honest job seekers can search for employment more safely and confidently.
Proposed Solution
We propose stronger protections for job seekers against fraudulent recruitment by introducing better verification, reporting, and enforcement mechanisms. Government authorities should strengthen verification of recruitment agencies and job advertisements, make it easier for citizens to report suspected recruitment scams, and establish faster coordination between cybercrime authorities, employment departments, banks, and digital platforms to investigate fraudulent recruiters and recover funds where possible. We also propose a public awareness campaign to help students, graduates, and unemployed workers identify common recruitment scams, avoid suspicious payment requests, and verify employers before sharing sensitive personal information. Recruitment platforms and agencies should be encouraged to clearly identify verified employers and provide transparent information about legitimate recruitment processes. Together, these measures can reduce recruitment fraud, protect job seekers' money and personal information, and create a safer and more trustworthy employment ecosystem.
