Take Strong Action to Reduce Plastic Pollution in Cities
Problem
Plastic pollution has become a serious environmental issue in many Indian cities. Large amounts of single-use plastic waste are generated daily from households, markets, and commercial activities. Improper disposal, lack of effective waste segregation, and limited recycling facilities lead to plastic clogging drains, polluting land and water bodies, and harming wildlife. This not only damages the environment but also creates health risks and increases urban cleanliness challenges.
Proposed Solution
The government should strictly enforce bans on single-use plastics, improve waste segregation and recycling systems, promote eco-friendly alternatives, increase public awareness about plastic reduction, and strengthen penalties for illegal plastic production and disposal. Municipal bodies should also ensure regular collection and proper processing of plastic waste.
